Min Addis looks back at the stories that mattered to the diaspora in January 2026.
The lead story is from Alberta, where the Alberta Prosperity Project began collecting signatures for a petition titled "A Referendum Relating to Alberta Independence." Organisers had until May 2, 2026 to gather roughly 178,000 signatures. The episode explains what the petition asks for, what would happen if it succeeds, and why it matters to families who have built their lives in the province.
Other stories round out the month: changes that affect household budgets, news for newcomers, and what to watch in the weeks ahead. In Amharic.
