Ten-year-old Asalif and his mother live on the edge of Addis Ababa, on farmland where one of the largest condominium projects in East Africa is rising. The towers promise a better life for thousands of families, but for Asalif and his mother they mean losing their land and living in a tool shed with no running water.
Asalif answers the upheaval, and the hyena said to haunt the neighbourhood, by turning himself into a hero: Anbessa, the lion.
Written, directed and shot by Mo Scarpelli, the documentary premiered at the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival in the Generation section. The score is by Erik K. Skodvin.
